Hi! I'm Sophie, founder of Curious Kids, scientist, and mum.
Curious Kids was inspired by my own children and their endless curiosity about the world around them. Their questions made me stop and notice things that, as adults, we often take for granted. Questions like; 'Why does the Moon change shape?' and 'How hot is the Sun?'. We had so much fun exploring the answers in ways they could actually see, do, and understand.
As a scientist, with extensive experience working with young people, I understand how to engage children and make science fun and accessible. So, four years ago, I founded Curious Kids — with a mission to celebrate children’s curiosity and explore their questions through hands-on science.
Every Curious Kids starts with a real question from a real curious kid. Why? Because when children ask the questions, they are naturally more engaged and excited to discover the answers. It makes their learning meaningful, relevant, and memorable.
At Curious Kids we don’t just tell children the answer — they discover it for themselves through exciting, hands-on activities (just like the ones in this guide) that bring the science to life.
I absolutely love designing activities that help children explore their questions in ways they can visualise, experience, and remember — and I hope you and your curious kid will love it too.
A recent report, The State of Primary Science Education in the UK (October 2025), found that 75% of primary teachers teach less than two hours of science per week — despite that being the recommended minimum.
So those everyday “why?” questions at home really matter.
Because when children don’t just hear the answer, but see it, test it and experience it for themselves… that’s when the learning really sticks.
Whether you home-educate or your child is in school, now is the perfect time to celebrate your child’s curiosity, boost their science knowledge, and create a real love of science at home.
